"The Essential Principles of Climate Literacy" version 2 was released in March, 2009 with additional input from climate experts and federal agencies participating in the U.S. Climate Change Science Program. While the original focus was on providing a framework for K12 science teachers, the new version is geared to serve not only educators but all individuals and communities interested in learning the basics of climate science.
The Climate Literacy Framework summarizes the most important principles and concepts of climate science. It was originally developed during 2007 through a community-wide consensus building process and has been recently revised. Numerous US federal agency scientists, formal and informal educators, and representatives from non-governmental organizations and other institutions involved in climate research, education, and outreach worked to define the key concepts related to climate. This framework builds on extensive climate research as well as the science and technology literacy benchmarks developed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Project 2061.
Climate and Energy Literacy Initiative: A Call to Action The Climate and Energy Literacy Initiative calls for education programs, paired with President Obama's plans to make government building and schools energy efficient, that would increase our individual and collective literacy about climate and energy and how they are intrinsically connected.
Climate Literacy.....
...leads to an understanding of how climate influences you, and how you influence climate.
Climate Literacy..... ...helps individuals make informed and responsible decisions. |
