The Climate Literacy Framework summarizes the essential principles and fundamental concepts of climate literacy. It was developed during 2007 through a community-wide consen-sus building process. Numerous US federal agency scientists, formal and informal educators, and representatives from non-governmental organizations and other institutions involved in climate research, education, and outreach worked to define the key concepts related to climate. The Framework builds on climate research and the science and technology benchmarks developed by the American Association for the Advancement
of Science (AAAS) Project 2061.
